Soft-pellets expel Coupeville student

May 18, 2012 · Updated 3:34 PM

A Coupeville Middle School student was removed from class last week after possibly bringing a harmless gun that shoots soft pellets on a field trip.

Coupeville Middle and High School Principal Sheldon Rosenkrance said the student was “emergency expelled” while staff investigate whether the student brought a soft pellet gun on a recent field trip to Camp Moran, which is located on Orcas Island.

Rosenkrance wouldn’t provide many details about the incident, or even the grade or gender of the student involved.

He emphasized the student didn’t bring a firearm during the field trip but carrying any weapon, from a slingshot to something in the shape of a gun, is a violation of school district policy.

Once the investigation is complete, the student could either be suspended or expelled, Rosenkrance said.
