Freeland fireworks show may not happen

The drama continues: Will there or won’t there be a fireworks show over Holmes Harbor on July 3, 2012.
Matt Chambers, who’s been organizing the popular, patriotic show at Freeland Park since its inception 17 years ago, said its budget this year is $29,000.
“We have in hand or pledges committed totaling $17,600,” Chambers said this week. “If we don’t have the money or pledges by June 8 the event will have to be canceled.”
Chambers said each of the substantial donors depended on in prior years had to either bow out or cut back their support this year. “This shortfall amounts to almost $10,000,” he notes.
The $10,000 shortfall has left Chambers and his organizing group at the Assembly Church with a substantial need for funding with time running out.
“It would be a shame to have to cancel the event because after 17 years, it’s become one of the most anticipated and enjoyed annual events by a large portion of our community,” Chambers said.
“Every dollar helps,” he concluded. Call 221-1656 to make a pledge, or stay home Tuesday, July 3, and look at the empty sky.
