Esterly joins Tourism Committee

August 10, 2012 · Updated 3:22 PM

Langley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marc Esterly has been appointed to serve on the Island County Joint Tourism Committee.

Esterly was recommended for the position by Mayor Larry Kwarsick and his decision was unanimously endorsed in a 3-0 vote at the City Council’s regularly scheduled meeting earlier this week.

Councilman Bruce Allen and Councilwoman Rene Neff were not present.

One of two such groups, the tourism committee decides how and where to spend money from a 2-percent tax levied on lodging industry businesses. Under state law, the funds can only be spent on tourism promotion.

The 19-member committee is composed of representatives from local governments and chambers of commerce but also includes positions for various at-large members. Esterly, who will serve as the chamber’s representative, replaces chamber Communications Director Sherry Jennings.
