A 52-year-old Freeland woman was sentenced to jail for kicking in a couple’s door in the middle of the night and attacking a woman with a knife.
Frances Herman pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in Island County Superior Court Aug. 27 as part of a plea bargain. The judge sentenced her to 75 days in jail and ordered her to pay $1,217 in fines and fees.
Herman broke into an Oak Harbor home in the early morning of June 25 and started fighting with a woman who lives there; Herman was armed with a knife at the time. The woman’s husband called 911.
The resident said Herman is the mother of one of her friends and was apparently looking for her daughter, who wasn’t in the residence.
Herman dragged the woman across the yard until the victim was able to get the weapon away from her. The victim suffered a bruise from being thrown to the ground and scratches on her hand.
The deputy’s report states that Herman’s behavior turned recently.
