Learning center sets kickoff

September 21, 2012 · Updated 3:58 PM

The Whidbey Island Community Education Center has a home, and will soon have a kickoff lecture and party.

The continued learning program has set its first lecture for 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church in Freeland. David Domke, a department chair at the University of Washington, will present his lecture “The Gettysburg Covenant” about creating a more civil society. The presentation will look at a two-minute speech made by President Abraham Lincoln.

The education center will be at Bayview School, the former site of the South Whidbey School District’s alternative high school. For more information about the program, visit www.wicec.us.
