Car washes provide funding for Safe Ride Home, get kids home safely

September 21, 2012 · Updated 4:07 PM

A program to get people home safely with prepaid taxi rides needs a little support.

Safe Ride Home Whidbey Island offers free rides home to anyone who finds themselves in unsafe situations. Donate by attending a car wash fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Whidbey Island Bank branches in Freeland, Coupeville or Oak Harbor.

Safe Ride Home is a community service offered to everyone. It is a preventative program that pre-pays the taxi cabs of Island County to provide anyone who needs it a safe ride home when they find themselves in an unsafe situation.

If someone should need for any reason they can call 341-TAXI and get a free, safe and confidential ride home. For more information, call Brian Grimm at 360-929-3277.

Also participate in an essay/poster contest to win a Dell laptop. Submit a one-page essay about anything related to Safe Ride Home, including personal or fictional tales. Or submit an art poster at least 11-by-17 inches. Winners will be chosen Dec. 15.
