Record plans office return to Langley

After operating from an office in Coupeville for the past 2 ½ years, the South Whidbey Record is coming home.

Record staff will move into a new office in Langley in November.

Jim Larsen, who headed the Record newsroom for most of the past 30 years, will return to his post as editor. He will hand over his role as editor of Oak Harbor’s Whidbey News-Times, which he edited for 10 years, to Megan Hansen, who also will take over editorial leadership of The Whidbey Examiner.

“My aim is to make sure Whidbey Island’s community newspapers are engaged and connected with the communities they cover,” said Kasia Pierzga, publisher of the Record, the News-Times and the Examiner. “Returning the Record to its home community in South Whidbey is a step toward achieving that goal.”

Larsen said the Record got its start in Langley and he’s happy the paper is returning to its roots.

“We’ll still be covering all of South Whidbey,” he emphasized, “but from our traditional location.”

The Record moved to Bayview for several years before joining the Whidbey News-Times in a common Coupeville office which opened April 1, 2010.

The new Record office will be housed at 211 Second St., Suite 8, in the building in Langley Village that previously housed a retail shop called Chic Debris and before that, Island Travel. An open house “homecoming” celebration will be held at a date in the near future.
