Smoke shouldn’t be alarming

Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke in the Bayview area Saturday.

South Whidbey Fire/EMS firefighters and EMTs will train Oct. 27 on private property, just off Bayview Road.

Chief Rusty Palmer said this event includes burning an old barn which has been donated by a local family. “It will provide vital experience for volunteers in fire suppression and rescue techniques,” he said. The fire will be visible from Highway 525, Useless Bay and Sunlight Beach.

Signs will be posted indicating exactly where the training is taking place. All public roads are expected to be fully accessible. Fire department volunteers, staff, and apparatus will begin arriving before 7 a.m. The training exercise is expected to conclude by early afternoon.

Anyone with questions about the drill should contact Palmer at chief@icfd3.org or 321-1533.
