Society presents Bronze Medal awards
June 25, 2008 · Updated 10:46 AM
The Whidbey Island Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society presents the Bronze Medal to Pat Sasson and Gail DaPont in recognition for their many years of service.
Sasson has served the chapter as vice president for the past five years scheduling interesting programs and speakers on rhododendrons and companion plants. She often hosts guest speakers in her home for dinner and overnight stays and does the same for visiting members from other chapters. In this respect, she serves as Good Will Ambassador. Sasson can always be counted on to volunteer for committees, plant sales and to coordinate the holiday party. She is also founder and chairperson of the annual Meerkerk Medley gala fundraiser.
DaPont has been the chapters newsletter editor for more than seven years. She tirelessly collects news items and gardening tips and then publishes them in a professional style newsletter, to be delivered to the membership well before each meeting. She serves on the chapter board of directors, is a steady contributor to plant sales, meetings and volunteers weekly at Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens. She is also camera shy.
