Park and ride in Langley complete, finally

After almost eight years, the park-and-ride lot in Langley is finished.

The lot on the corner of Camano Avenue/Sixth Street/Cascade Avenue, used as a parking lot by the Island Church of Whidbey (formerly Langley Christian and Missionary Alliance), was paved in 2012 and marked with parking spaces. Several years of work and delayed developments marred the city’s plans to create a space for residents and visitors to park while exploring the Village by the Sea.

Only one piece remains. Signs are in the city’s possession, said Public Works Director Challis Stringer, and will be posted soon.

The project was awarded to Krieg Construction of Oak Harbor for the total of $483,644.78. Originally, the work was bid for $472,06.90, but the addition of 18 Arborvitae’s for a privacy screen for a neighboring property and lowering part of the lot because of the estimated cost of lowering cables in the area bumped the total by almost $11,000.
