Tulip sale a hit for Langley Middle School jazz band
February 5, 2013 · Updated 3:05 PM
South Whidbey supported the Langley Middle School jazz band in a big way. The band sold 800 tulip plants to raise money for instrument cleaning and repair, music and a trip to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
Superintendent Jo Moccia reported that all of the jazz band members will be able to attend the trip because of the fundraiser.
“The wonderful support of our local community for the tulip sale will have a very positive impact on the growth of these developing musicians and their musical education,” said Jess Monett, the band’s director. “Come hear them play. They are outstanding.”
The band will perform at the Sweetheart Ball from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday Feb. 8, at South Whidbey High School. Tickets cost $10 or $30 for a family.
