Pole building at Whidbey Island fairgrounds seeks deconstructionists

February 19, 2013 · Updated 2:03 PM

Calling all deconstructionists to the Pole Building kitchen demolition party at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. Bring gloves and a willingness to help, and you will be fed for your efforts.

Sandey Brandon, fair manager, said volunteers are needed to fill the dumpster as the kitchen is emptied to make way for its renewal. “Many hands make light work, so please help make this a swift process,” she said.

Construction is due to start March 1 and, with volunteer help, the kitchen will be revitalized before the fair starts Aug. 15.

As part of the Island County Fair Association’s match for the $50,000 safety grant awarded by the Washington state Department of Agriculture, volunteer hours must be tracked, so RSVP to the fair office at 360-221-4677 if you can participate.
