South Whidbey fire district buys rescue boat

With a recently announced FEMA grant secured, South Whidbey Fire/EMS picked its marine/technical rescue boat.

Commissioners approved a contract with General Fire Apparatus, Inc. for $166,039.83. South Whidbey Fire/EMS has to pay 25 percent of the cost, and the FEMA grant will cover the rest of the $425,000 tab.

The emergency response vessel will be moored in Langley at the improved marina.
