Drivers can expect delays this weekend on Highway 20 east of Deception Pass.

Construction crews will close one lane of the highway two miles east of the Deception Pass bridges to complete paving so the new bridge over Meadow Creek can be open to drivers on Sunday, June 1.

According to the state Department of Transportation, drivers should expect delays of 15 minutes or more.

One lane near Meadow Creek will be closed from 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31 to noon Sunday, June 1. The longest delays are expected early Saturday evening and late Sunday morning as weekend travelers head home.

The work is part of a $34.3 million project to improve safety on Highway 20.
