Curt Gordon will hold a campaign kick-off picnic for county commissioner next weekend in Freeland.

Gordon is running for the District 1 position on the board of Island County commissioners. Gordon - who is not running as a Democrat, Republican or independent candidate - is challenging incumbent Republican Phil Bakke for the seat.

Democrat Helen Price Johnson and Republican Reece Rose are also vying for the post.

The two candidates who receive the most votes in the August primary will advance to the November general election.

Gordon’s picnic event is 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8 at Freeland Hall.

A campaign official said the menu will include Ann’s fried chicken, baked beans, biscuits and gravy, popsicles and other fare.
