William "Mac" McDowell filed as a candidate for the District 2 seat on the Island County board of commissioners Monday, according to Island County election workers.

McDowell, a Republican, is the incumbent. He has held the seat since January 1993. He faces a potential challenge from Angie Homola, who earlier said she would run as a Democrat in the race.

As of late Monday afternoon, Homola had not yet filed as a candidate in the county auditor's office in the District 2 commissioner's race.

Monday was the first day for candidates to file for office. The filing period closes Friday, June 6.
