Comedy semifinals at Freeland's Teddy's

"After two weeks of shows, the 10 comics making the semifinals of the $10,000 20th Annual Seattle International StandUp Comedy Competition are heading to the final rounds.One of their venues is Teddy’s on Whidbey, where they’ll be appearing tonight, Nov. 20, starting at 8 p.m.The competition began with 32 comedians in rounds 1 and 2. The semi-finals have five finalists from each of those rounds. The 10 semi-finalists are competing five nights at a different venue each night, where they will be scored numerically in seven performance categories by a panel of judges. Local judges will cast their votes and the last five will move onto the finals the following week.The semifinalists are: Darryl Lenox and Damonde Tschritter from Vancouver, B.C.; Tanyalee Davis from Los Angeles (only the second woman in the past 10 years to make the semis); Ralph Porter and Teina Manu from Tacoma; Craig Gass from New York; Andy Andrist from Eugene; Dean Evans of Salt Lake City; and James Heneghen and Rick Kunkler from Seattle.The evening at Teddy’s will be hosted by Auggie Smith. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets now on sale at $10; call 331-2882 (must be 18 or older to attend). Seats are limited, so early purchase of tickets is encouraged. The finalists will appear in Seattle at the Comedy Underground on Nov. 28. "
