"Both the seventh- and eighth-grade Langley Middle School girls basketball teams opened their season with wins last week on the road against Gateway.Although she struggled with her shooting most of the game, Mary McCune came through when it counted most, putting in the game-winning basket with just three seconds to play as the seventh-graders squeaked out a 23-22 win. Prior to McCune's clutch shot, Christie Robinson scored with 43 seconds left to pull her team within one. McCune also topped all rebounders with 16.The eighth-graders, behind Jenny Newman's 12 points, had an easier time of it as they jumped out to a 17-6 first quarter advantage on their way to a 31-22 triumph.Katy McGillen added seven points and led the Cougars rebounding while Jordan Tobler chipped in with six points. Rachel McCabe and Brianna Hussey rounded out the scoring with four and two points, respectively."
