Contra Dance led by 'community musicians'

"Longtime Langley resident Linda Good will lead the Island Contra Band as host musician at the Contra Dance on March 10, 7 p.m. at Bayview Community Hall. Quenn Charrier of Port Townsend will call the dances.Good has been on the Island for more than 30 years, and this past year celebrated the 25th year of Island Strings and its work with young musicians. She plays violin, viola or cello in numerous orchestras and string ensembles, and has been a mainstay in Indigo, the Celtic string band.When Whidbey Island Contra was formed four years ago, Good was one of the original musicians. She is present as a performer, organizer, and/or teacher at events such as Choochokam, Open Mics, children's performances and many benefits.Charrier, a fiddler and caller with the Port Townsend Community Dances, will teach basic contra dance moves to inexperienced dancers at 7 p.m. At 7:45, Good will strike up the band for an evening of energetic dancing, with several Irish tunes to liven it up. No partners are necessary for this form of American social dancing. Children and teens are welcome. Admission is $6 adults and teens; children, 5-12, are half-price."
