Boy golfers peak in time for playoffs

"South Whidbey's boy golfers may have peaked at the right time, judging by their performance at Semiahmoo Monday.The Falcon swingers lit it up, said coach Mick Heggenes, combining five solid rounds for a team score of 415. That easily outdistanced Blaine with 465 and Lynden with 521.The Falcons beat their prior best team score of the year by a dozen strokes, and the scores ranged from 78 to 86 That's packin' 'em in, said Heggenes.Charlie Bass was medalist for the day with a 78. He won a chip-off for the honor, placing a 40-foot chip shot within 2 1/2 feet of the cup. Par at Semiahmoo is 72.Senior Row Brown shot the best 18 of his career with an 81, while Dorian Sidhu finished with 84. Andrew Heintz and Chuck Applebee rounded out the scoring, each with an 86.It was the final regular season match for the Falcons. In North Cascades Conference competition they finished with a 5-1 record.Next Tuesday the Falcons travel to North Bellingham Golf & Country Club for the conference championship tournament. Judging by their performance at Semiahmoo, the Falcons have peaked at the right time. I feel good about our chances, said Heggenes. I hope the kids can just relax and play."
