"The Falcon boy golfers played their worst 18 holes of the season at the worst possible time -- in the North Cascades Conference tournament Monday at North Bellingham Golf & Country Club.We as a team played poorly, said coach Mick Heggenes, adding that the score of 444 was the highest of the year for his boys. I guess we're not mudders.Conditions were extremely wet and muddy, but Heggenes pointed out that everyone played in the same weather. Lynden Christian won with a 431, followed by Mount Baker at 433, South Whidbey 444, Meridian 480, Blaine 512, Lakewood 538, and Nooksack Valley 578.The conference uses the tournament to determine final standings regardless of the regular season record. South Whidbey lost only one conference match all year, but will have to settle for third because of the tournament format.Medalist for the day was Lynden Christian's Andrew Bostrom with a 77 on the par 72 layout. Falcon Charlie Bass won a chip-off to take second with a 79, while teammate Alec Osenbach placed 10th with an 89.Rounding out the scoring for South Whidbey were Andrew Heintz with 90, Dorian Sidhu 90, and Row Brown 96.The same five Falcon golfers now advance to the district tournament set for Tuesday, May 16 at Gold Mountain near Bremerton. About 70 golfers will participate, of which 13 will advance to state. It will not be easy to get to state, Heggenes said."
