"Select girls team tryoutsSouth Whidbey Youth Soccer Club's U13 Girls Select Soccer team tryouts will be held Sunday, June 11 at 1 p.m. at the South Whidbey Intermediate school. Please bring a soccer ball. For information call Craig Wild, 321-9453.Track athletes receive honorsAt their annual awards banquet last Friday, the South Whidbey High School boys and girls track teams recognized some of their finest performers. Most valuable player honors went to juniors Braden Giswold and Andrea McGillen. Seniors Chris Ford and Jessie Enell were named most improved Chris Ford and Jessie Enell. The most inspirational squad members were Caitlin Robinson and Bruce Hymas, while the Coaches Award went to Dail Bates and Brian Moote. This year's team captains were Kenady Reuland and Jesse Ellison.Jesse Enell has been selected to run in the East/West All-star cross country 5K race on July 29. This race consists of the top senior athletes from each classification. The Washington State Cross Country Association (W.S.C.C.C.A.) sponsors the event and offers scholarships to the athletes based on participation in the all-star race, cumulative grade point average, civic involvement, post high school ambitions, coaches' letter of recommendation, and financial need. Cross country scholarship named for WestlingAn honorary scholarship has been established in the name of longtime South Whidbey track and cross country coach Carl Westling. This scholarship is funded by donations from South Whidbey Alumni and friends.
