"Are your sons and daughters hankering to play a little football? Sign them up now for Islanders youth football. The Islanders are looking for 8- to 12-year-old boys and girls to play full-contact midget and junior league football this summer. As part of the North Cascades Youth Football League, the Islanders team is a great place for young gridders to learn the sport and techniques of football. The season starts on July 31. After a few weeks of practice, the tiny gridders will go to work on a seven-game schedule, playing primarily local teams. League organizers Carolyn Streitler said the Islanders are in need of more 11- and 12-year-olds to fill out their junior team, but all 8-to 12-year-olds are encouraged to sign up. Signup for the league costs $90. The signup fee includes a free Islanders football.Because youth football is a full-tackle game, there are weight limits for both midgets and juniors. Call Carolyn or Gene Streitler at 579-1789 for more information about the league or to sign up. You may also call Trevor Wilmouth.
