"A Saturday fire spared only the exterior walls of this Beachwood Drive trailer home. The home's occupant was not hurt in the fire.Matt Johnson / staff photoA Freeland woman lost everything she owned last weekend when her Beachwood Drive, Freeland, home burned to the ground.Firefighters who responded to the 6:50 p.m. Saturday fire did all they could to save the 55-foot-long singlewide trailer home. But, said Don Smith, Fire District 3 chief, the home was fully engulfed in flames by the time the first fire trucks arrived on the scene 11 minutes after an initial 911 call. By then, the fire had spread through all of the trailer's walls, and into its floor and ceiling.Smith said the home's occupant, Janis Brunelle, was at home and inside the structure at the time of the blaze. She escaped the burning trailer uninjured before firefighters arrived. Led by incident commander Capt. Mike Churchill, the firefighters had the fire under control within a few minutes, but stayed on scene until after 9 p.m. to make sure it did not flare up again.Smith said his investigation into the cause of the fire indicated that it probably started due to faulty wiring. He estimated total property losses due to the fire at about $20,000."
