"Seniors climb into a wagon for a hayride around the M Bar C Ranch, where the annual Senior Services Summerfest took place in true Western style last week.Betsy Roberts/staff photoLast Thursday, on one of South Whidbey's loveliest summer days, Senior Services of Island County held their annual Summerfest Celebration at the M Bar C Ranch in Freeland. The M Bar C facilities are designed for welcoming visitors in true Western style. A large turnout of almost 400 seniors wandered the grounds looking through miniature Western buildings, took hayrides and wagon rides through the ranch, or simply relaxed and visited with friends as they settled themselves in the shade at tables under the apple trees.Rich Rorex and Greg Barnes added their popular guitar and bass music to the festive event. Two 4-H groups and a Girl Scout troop volunteered to assist for the event as did members of the M Bar C ranch and local seniors. Food Services of America provided most of the food for a barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers and their accompaniments.Lil Tucker of Clinton again won the award for selling the most raffle tickets at 1,066. Needless to say, the three raffle winners were delighted to collect their cash prizes. Hayrides and entertainment continued into the afternoon under a cloudless sky and warm sun.The seniors expressed grateful thanks to Margaret Sehovic, center activity director, for planning a delightful day, and to Jackie Little for a highly successful raffle. Senior Services felt fortunate as well to be included this year on tthe M Bar C's list of charitable events."
