"Sailing class sets sail againThe first youth sailing camp sponsored by South Whidbey Parks & Rec was so successful that they're doing it again. The camp, supported by the Navy sailing program at Crescent Harbor Marina, will be offered again Aug. 28-31. Beginning and intermediate sailing lessons for adults are also available. Call the Parks office at 221-5484 for details.Intensity seeks players for 2001The Island Intensity girls fastpitch team will be moving up to the 16 and under age division for the 2001 season. Anyone born in 1984 or later is eligible. Tryouts will be held sometime in early September. Enter all the events, or only one; choose advanced, advanced beginner, or intermediate divisions.Sign up with a partner or you can be matched with one. Prizes for first and second will be given. Depending on draw size and weather, Parks will try to schedule at least two matches (double elimination).Entry deadline is Aug. 15. Players will be notified of match times by Aug. 16. Singles pay $10; doubles are $16 per team. Call 221-5484 for information.Summer ends with kid campoutParks and Rec reserves the group camp site Aug. 30-31 at South Whidbey State Park so the kids have lots of room to roam and explore nature before school starts. Activities include crafts, hikes, Jr. Ranger program, fun and games. Hot dogs and s'mores provided; bring side dishes to share, as well as camping supplies, lunches and breakfast. Cost, $6 per person. Call 221-5484.Basketball fun league formingGather 12 of your friends to play in an exciting basketball league. All players must be 18 or older. South Whidbey Parks and Rec will have an interest list for individuals who are not already on a team. Games will be on Saturdays from 5-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 16, played in the LMS gym. Cost is $410 per team. Enter your team by the Sept. 8 deadline.Moorage permits now on InternetPeople who wish to moor their boats at the 41 state parks with marine access may now use the Internet to pay for a moorage permit. The purchase is made with a credit card, and the permit is then printed out on the applicant's own computer.The transaction can be made within minutes, any time of the day or night, according to a news release from the office of Gov. Gary Locke.
