"On Monday, Aug. 21, tryouts for fall sports begin on the boards and fields of South Whidbey High School.Volleyball players, football players, cross country runners, tennis players, soccer players, and fall cheerleaders should be ready to turn out for this first day of practice if they want to be in shape for the coming season. To get ready, all athletics participants should stop by South Whidbey High School next week to pick up athletic eligibility forms and physicians approval forms. Athletes need to complete their physicals before the first competitions of the year in order to begin competing. The high school athletic office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those with questions should call 221.4300, ext. 5403.Football team gets togetherFalcon football coach Mick Heggenes invites any high school student interested in football to a meeting Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. in the varsity locker room.Anyone's welcome, he said, noting that the team needs players. Eligibility requirements will be addressed and gear will be handed out. "
