"Time to practice punts, passes, kicks"

"Young pro football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skill when the South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District hosts an NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Friday, Sept. 15.The competition is free and open to boys and girls 8-15. It will be held at 5 p.m. at the South Whidbey Community Park on Maxwelton Road. For competition information, call the South Whidbey Parks and Recreation office at 221-5484.The competition allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing and place kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. Age classification is as of Dec. 31, 2000.Top finishers from each of eight age groups in the local competition will advance to a sectional competition. The winners at sectionals will have their scores compared with other sectional champions; the top five scorers from the pool of sectional champions advance to the Seahawk Team Championship.Age group champions at this level will be declared NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass & Kick team champions. The top four finishers in the boys' and girls' divisions within each age bracket from the pool of 31 Team Champions will qualify for the national finals at an NFL playoff game in January.A number of NFL players have competed in Punt, Pass & Kick, including top quarterbacks such as Dan Marino, Drew Bledsoe, and Randall Cunningham. "
