Football game caps first fall sports week

"Friday night football at Waterman Field will cap the first week of fall sports competition for South Whidbey High School teams.The Falcons will tackle the Granite Falls Tigers in the season and North Cascades Conference opener for both teams. South Whidbey is coming off a 2-7 record in 1999, with the Tigers having been one of their victims. Granite Falls went 1-9 last year. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.In other sports action this week, the boys tennis team travels to Lake Stevens on Wednesday and hosts Everett on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.The volleyball team participated in the league jamboree on Tuesday and plays its first game Thursday at Mariner.The girls soccer team makes its debut at home Thursday against La Conner. Varsity action starts a 6 p.m. following the JV game.Finally, the boys and girls cross country teams travel to Mount Vernon Thursday for the North Cascades jamboree. On Saturday, the boys travel to the Edmonds Invitational while the girls run in the Shoreline Invitational. "
