"The county ban was lifted as of noon Wednesday, Sept. 6, for fires outside city limits. Permits are not required for burning natural materials, including untreated lumber three-feet in length or smaller, if the burn pile is less than four feet in diameter. Fires must be built on bare soil away from dry grass or foliage, at least 50 feet from any structure, and the fire must be attended by a person with the means to extinguish the fire. Burn barrels still are not allowed.Burn permits are required for all outdoor fires larger than 4 feet in diameter. Call the state Department of Natural Resources at 1-800-527-33. "
