State Ferries seeks 150 passenger Clinton boat

"Washington State Ferries this week issued a request-for-proposals from boat companies to provide temporary passenger-only service between Clinton and Mukilteo from late November until mid February.Sharon Ellsworth, public involvement manager for the ferry system, said the RFP was scheduled to go out Monday or Tuesday, and the target date to award a contract is Oct. 25.The ferry system is requesting a boat that will accommodate 150 passengers, Ellsworth said. Service will begin Nov. 27 when construction on the Mukilteo dock wingwalls begins. Work will be completed by Feb. 15.During the construction period, regular car ferries will operate between Clinton and Edmonds during non-commuter daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday through Friday. During those hours, the passenger-only boat will operate between Clinton and Mukilteo.Ferries will operate a normal, traditional schedule on Saturdays as well as the following holiday periods, as announced Sept. 21 by the ferry system:* The regular fall schedule will be in place for Christmas from Dec. 23 through Dec. 26, as well as for the New Year's break, Dec. 30 through Jan. 1.Two informal drop in open houses are scheduled to allow the public to talk with project engineers and other ferry and transit officials about the plan. The meetings will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Highway 525 and Woodard, in Freeland, on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 4 to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon. "
