Tuberculosis test no longer offered in Island County

There is a shortage in the United States of purified protein derivative (PPD), used for screening for tuberculosis. The manufacturer of Tubersol reports production delays, and the manufacturer of Aplisol has notified the FDA that their product is on allocation and only available in restricted quantities.

Island County Public Health is not able to offer tuberculosis screening at this time, said Dr. Roger Case, director. “Those seeking screening need to consult their health care providers,” he said.

For more information about the shortage, see the Health Alert issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at
