An injured driver was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle today after his car went off the roadway on Wilkinson Road near Langley.

According to a Fire District 3 official, the vehicle hit a number of trees before it rolled over onto its side and came to a stop.

A passerby said it appeared the vehicle may have hit as many as four or five trees.

The force of the accident was powerful enough to rip off the top of the 2007 Subaru, said Deputy Fire Chief John Beck.

The accident occurred just before 6 a.m. Wilkinson Road was closed to traffic after the crash.

Island County sheriff's deputies arrived at the accident site within seven minutes after being dispatched and EMTs from Fire District 3 were on the scene within 12 minutes. Wilkinson Road was reopened at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.
