May 2, 2013 · Updated 2:30 PM

The Island County Sheriff’s Office, Coupeville Marshal, and Oak Harbor Police Department conducted a very successful “Drug Take Back Program” on Saturday, April 27, according to Sheriff Mark Brown.

“In total we collected over 300 pounds of unwanted/unused pharmaceuticals from citizens throughout Whidbey Island,” Brown said in a release, thanking Whidbey’s newspapers and others for advertising the event.

“On behalf of the Island County Sheriff’s Office, Oak Harbor Police Department, and the Coupeville Marshal’s Office, Chief Ed Green, Marshal Lance Davenport, and I, we would like to thank everyone involved in making this a truly successful event that contributes to not only getting dangerous drugs out of medicine cabinets, but protecting our environment as well.”
