The State Patrol identified the motorcyclist killed in a Highway 525 accident as Herbert Wood, 60, of Renton.

Wood died Saturday attempting to pass traffic northbound on Highway 525 between Maxwelton and Coles roads.

"He pulled out and attempted to pass other vehicles, saw oncoming traffic, swerved back and lost control," said State Trooper Norm Larsen.

"He was not making an illegal move because the lines there are broken, but he clearly was not aware of cars headed his way," Larsen said.

Wood's 2002 BMC chopper was totaled in the crash. The State Patrol said Wood lived in Renton but was visiting his daughter in Freeland at the time of the accident.

Wood was taken to Whidbey General Hospital in Coupeville after the crash, where he later died.
