"Little League to pick officersSouth Whidbey Little League will meet Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Brookhaven Hall in Langley.Board members for 2001 will be elected. Kathy Patterson, a Little League volunteer, said plenty of positions are available for people who want to help, among them treasurer, secretary, coaches, managers and concession stand workers.Anyone interested should attend the meeting. For more information call Patterson at 579-7293.Adults can ski uncrowded slopesSign up for South Whidbey Parks and Recreation's Adult Tuesday Ski Bus and enjoy a luxury ride, sit back and relax, read, talk with friends or meet new ones, then enjoy a day of skiing the uncrowded mountains.The Adult Bus offers the option of going six or eight Tuesdays, Jan. 9 to Feb. 27, to Stevens Pass and Mount Baker ski areas. The cost of the bus from Whidbey Island is $140 for six trips, $189 for eight weeks. Call for prices from Everett and Monroe. Always wanted to learn to ski? The speaker will be Dick Streater, who writes for The Reel News. The cost is $16 per person. All boys will be able to register weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation office.Skill evaluation for boys in grades three through six will be held Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the high school gym. Evaluation for grades seven and eight will be held at the middle school gym Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. Second grade boys need not attend.Registration fee before Dec. 18 is $35 per child. After Dec. 18 the fee increases to $45. Call 221-5484.Youth games need refereesGet some exercise while helping the youth of the community. The South Whidbey youth basketball program is lacking trained referees for the girls and boys basketball games. Referee training will be provided to those who are interested.Games are held Saturday mornings and weekdays. Training will be held at the intermediate school on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m. The program is willing to pay trained referees. Call 221-5484.Men's winter league plannedThe South Whidbey Men's Winter Basketball League for ages 18 and over will take place Saturday evenings from 5 to 9 Starting Jan. 13 at Langley Middle School.Registration packets are available at the Parks office, 5495 S. Maxwelton Rd. Entry fee is $420 per team, and the number of players on any team roster may not exceed 12. Any individual looking for a team may sign up at the Parks office.Registrations must be turned in by Friday, Jan. 5. Team managers will meet Monday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Parks office.
