Clinton driver only shaken in car vs.tree collision

"Rescue personnel pull Clinton's Rory Planque out of his car after he crashed into a tree on Maxwelton Road Monday afternoon.Matt Johnson / staff photoExcessive speed and a wet road sent a Clinton man to the hospital Monday afternoon when he slammed his car into a tree along Maxwelton Road.According to the Island County Sheriff's Office, Rory Planque, 18, was driving his 1981 Lincoln Continental in excess of 65 mph at about 4:30 p.m. Monday when he lost control of the vehicle while traveling southbound through a sharp curve on Maxwelton Road. Planque's car went into a 103-foot skid and narrowly missed another car traveling northbound. Planque overcorrected several times before the car struck a mature alder tree at the side of the road.When they arrived at the scene minutes after the crash, rescue personnel from Fire District 3 had to team up to open the driver's side door on Planque's vehicle. The car's engine compartment was destroyed by the impact and was leaking oil on the road as rescuers pulled Planque from the driver's seat.Planque complained of a sore neck and dizziness after the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Paramedics from Whidbey General Hospital transported Planque to Coupeville for treatment. Planque's vehicle was a total loss. "
