Choochokam planning is under way

"Choochokam, the Langley Festival of the Arts, is gearing up for its 26th year as one of the most popular summertime events in our region and is looking for a logo design, entertainers, artists and volunteers.The Island Arts Council sponsors the arts festival July 7-8, and will also showcase a week of musical performances at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts prior to the famous street fair.Artists and craftspeople are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to showcase and sell their work during the festival, and in addition to arts and crafts and food vendors, the festival coordinators are seeking entertainers from all genres for performances during the event. Ensembles, a cappella groups, poets, jugglers, troubadours, magicians and dancers are encouraged to apply. For applications or information regarding guidelines and deadlines call 221-7494.Designers and artists are invited to submit entries for the festival's annual design competition. The winning design will be incorporated into various aspects of Choochokam publicity and will earn the artist a prize of $500. Applications with specifications and rules are available at the Artists Co-op in Langley, the Art Store at Bayview or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Design Competition, 430 4th Street, Langley, WA 98260. The deadline for designs is April 9.Festival coordinators would like to create a children's area as part of the festival, and need a coordinator as well as ideas for children's activities. The festival is also looking for people in the community to volunteer their efforts. Volunteers are needed in different capacities throughout the festival.
