Falcon fastpitch bats pound opponents

"South Whidbey's bats came alive last week to power the fastpitch team to blowout victories over Sultan on Tuesday and Meridian on Thursday.At Sultan, the Falcons amassed a dozen hits, fielded errorlessly, and thumped the hosts 15-3. Ashley Lopez and Nici Eaton shared pitching duties, holding the Turks scoreless except for a three-run third. Lopez was credited with the win.On offense, Mary Murphy knocked two triples, Shannon Brown tripled and Jenny Murphy doubled.Thursday at home, the Falcons administered similar treatment to Meridian, sending the Trojans home to nurse a 12-2 loss.Lopez went the distance on the mound, giving up two in the second but pitching scoreless ball the rest of the way. South Whidbey struck for 5 in the third, 3 in the fifth and 5 in the sixth.Lopez helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple and 3 RBI. Mary Murphy tripled and Shannon Murphy went 2-for-3. The Falcons collected 9 hits for the game and again played defense perfectly.The week's work improved South Whidbey's league record to 2-3 after beginning the year 0-3. Overall, the Falcons are 5-4. Next week they're on the road with games Tuesday at Mount Baker and Thursday at Blaine. "
