Falcons pound Blaine to even league record

"Ashley Lopez provided much of the necessary pitching and hitting in a South Whidbey fastpitch victory Thursday at Blaine.The sophomore hurler found the atmosphere near the Canadian border to her liking. She banged out two doubles at the plate and gave up only 1 run in the three innings she pitched as the Falcons thumped the Borderites 14-1.Lucy Daumen came up from JV and pitched solid fourth and fifth innings as the game was cut short by the 10-run rule. South Whidbey had a field day with their bats. Bronwyn Russell went 4-for-4, while Julie Robinson, Jenny Murphy and Mary Murphy added doubles. The Falcons totalled 17 hits, while pitchers Lopez and Daumen held Blaine to a single hit. In the field the Falcons went errorless once again.It was South Whidbey's third consecutive North Cascades Conference win after starting the season 0-3 in league. A scheduled game Tuesday at Mount Baker was rained out. The team is now 3-3 in league and 6-3 overall. Blaine fell to 3-5, 3-6.Next Tuesday the Falcons travel to Granite Falls. Wednesday they host Lakewood in a make-up game, and Thursday Lynden Christian visits South Whidbey. "
