"South Whidbey beat Granite Falls 8-2 in fastpitch action Friday to send themselves into the final days of the season in a huge battle for playoff position. The next four games are our crucial test, said coach Rene Christian, looking forward to the rest of the North Cascades Conference schedule. The test begins May 2 with a home game against Sultan. Friday the Falcons travel to Meridian, May 8 they host Mount Baker, and the regular season ends May 10 with a home game against Blaine. After last week's action South Whidbey sported a 7-4 league record and still had a realistic shot at third place, which is important for position in the bi-district tournament. The win against Granite Falls was largely thanks to Mary Murphy's hot bat. She belted two home runs at the Tigers' field, including a three-run blast in the seventh inning that sealed the game's outcome. She totaled 5 RBI for the day. Julie Robinson went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Keasha Campbell collected hits in both official at-bats.On the mound, Nici Eaton did a nice job for five innings when Val Mock stepped in to finish off the Tigers.
