Harpist plays for Mother's Day at Meerkerk

"Harper Tasche will perform a Mother's Day concert at Meerkerk Gardens on Sunday.Harper Tasche presents a full-length concert on Mother's Day at Meerkerk Gardens, featuring the rare cross-strung harp, bowed psaltery and recorder The gardens are open on Sunday, May 13, from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $7.50 adults, $5 seniors, children over 5 years old, $1; children under 5 free. The program includes traditional music from Nordic and Celtic countries, light classical selections, and Tasche's original compositions in a wide variety of styles. Tasche has performed on international PBS-TV and radio, made numerous recordings, and been a featured concert artist and clinician at major international folk harp and pop/jazz harp festivals. The cross-strung harp has two sets of strings which intersect, forming an X, unlike classical or folk harps which have only one set. The concert is set under tall firs surrounded by rhododendrons in full bloom. Desserts and drinks are available featuring freshly baked Whidbey Island Berry Pies.
