"Athletes meet new football, basketball coaches"

"Athletes will get a chance to meet their new high school basketball and football coaches next week.On Tuesday, May 29, girls turning out for the 2001-2002 high school basketball team can meet coach Sam Lee, who also welcomes parents to the 6:30 p.m. gathering in the gymnasium at South Whidbey High School. Lee succeeds Nancy Cole, a 1989 South Whidbey graduate who coached the team for the past five years.Summer practices for the team begin the same day at 5 p.m.For more information about the meeting or summer practices, contact the school's athletic director, John Patton, at 221-4300.Falcon football players will get the opportunity to meet their new coach, Mark Hodson, Tuesday, May 29 in the New Commons at South Whidbey High School.Hodson, a history teacher at the school, takes the helm of the school's football team in the wake of Mick Heggenes' retirement from the head coach's job.Heggenes coached the Falcons from 1974 through the 2000 season, and was head coach beginning in 1982.Incoming freshmen players are strongly urged to attend this meeting. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. "
