"The fishiest running race on South Whidbey literally hits the trail this month when the third Annual Chum Run sends runners on 5K and 10K treks through the woods at the South Whidbey Community Park on Saturday, June 30.A benefit for the Maxwelton Salmon Adventure, the Chum Run is for both runners and walkers. The looping, off-road course through the park trails is appropriately near the headwaters of the Maxwelton Creek watershed, which is one of just two areas on South Whidbey known to be salmon habitat. The Maxwelton Salmon Adventure promotes stewardship works to preserve salmon, wildlife, habitat and water quality.Early registration for the run costs $20 for individuals, $40 for families of three or more and $10 for children 15 and under. Runners who raise pledges equal to or greater than the entry fee run for free. Each participant will receive a Chum Run T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to place finishers in a number of categories. The run starts at 9 a.m. Race day registration starts at 8 a.m. at Playground in the Park.
