Intensity excels in tournaments

"Island Intensity fastpitch team finished a solid seventh in the 16-and-under Washington State B-class Tournament held June 30 to July 1 in Tacoma.Intensity lost 6-5 to the eventual champions, Peninsula Fury, in the first game of the tournament. Ashley Lopez pitched and struck out 6 while allowing 4 hits and 4 walks. Three costly Intensity errors resulted in 4 runs. Mary Murphy led the offense, going 3 for 2 with back-to-back triples that produced 2 RBI.Intensity played four more more games the first day, finishing at 9 p.m.In game two with Lisa McNaughton toeing the rubber, Intensity came back to beat the Montesano Bulldogs 7-4. She fanned 3 while allowing 4 hits and 4 walks. Mary Murphy collected 3 hits, including a triple, and 3 RBI.Lopez returned to the pitching circle in game three as Intensity grounded High Voltage 8-2. Jenny Murphy had the hot stick.Intensity's winning streak extended to 3 games with a 6-1 win over FOS Power with Nici Eaton handling the pitching chores. She struck out 2 and allowed 5 hits. Shannon Brown dominated at the plate with a 2 for 3, 2 RBI performance.The final game of Intensity's tournament was a heartbreaker, with BAM Fastpitch scoring two runs late in the game. They were the only runs given up by Intensity's pitcher, Lisa McNaugton, but Intensity failed to score. Jenny Murphy and Nici Eaton managed a hit apiece.In other recent action, Intensity took second place in the Mike Coppinger Memorial Invitational Tournament July 7-8 in Monroe. Intensity beat the Everett Elite 201 and Woodinville Reign 4-1 before losing to the Monroe Storm 5-4. That set up a rematch with the Storm, which Intensity won 6-4.Intensity advanced to the championship game against Everett Elite and lost 2-1. Lopez had a busy day pitching and at one point retired 27 consecutive batters over two games. But the only run Intensity managed in the title game came on Jenny Murphy's sacrifice bunt.
