Lodell earns spot on World Series team

"South Whidbey's Michael Lodell played last week in the Mickey Mantle National World Series Tournament in Orlando, Fla.The 14-year-old will be a freshman at South Whidbey High School this year. This summer, he played on the Northlake Washington Falcons. It's a team of 15-year-olds out of Bothell, and he was the youngest player on the team.Lodell said the Northlake team qualified for the World Series by placing third in state this year, following a first place finish last year. He plays left field. We're so excited about this, he said.The team has been frantically raising money for the trip with car washes and other fund-raisers. Lodell's parents, Randy and Monica, manned a concession stand at Safeco Field to earn money for the team. They are all going to Florida along with Michael's 13-year-old sister, Carin. "
