"South Whidbey Intermediate School Principal Doug Hale encourages new students in the school district to stop by and register now, well before the opening of school on Sept. 6.If you are new to our school district and have students in grades 3-5, be sure to come by the Intermediate School office to register them, as soon as possible, Hale said.New students who register soon will have their names on the class lists that will be posted at the school after 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30.An orientation for all incoming third grade students will be held Thursday, Aug. 23 from 6-7 p.m. in the school gym.Returning students will find some changes when they come back to the intermediate school. There will be three new classroom teachers, a new art teacher and a new school psychologist. A new math curriculum, Trailblazers, will, as Hale describes it, challenge students to discover the connections between what they learn in school and what they experience in everyday life. Each student will have a new Take Home Tuesday folder.New math books will also greet students, the halls and walls are being scrubbed, class lists are being finalized and the latest edition of the parent handbook is being printed in anticipation of the 500 students arriving on Sept. 6.
