"The burn ban in Island County was lifted Wednesday, Sept. 5 due to cool damp weather. It is now legal to burn outdoors without a permit if the fire is 10 feet by 10 feet or less. Anything larger still needs a permit.Only natural vegetative materials or natural firewood 3-feet long or less may be burned outdoors, and state law precludes the use of a burn barrel anywhere in Washington. To inquire about a burn permit for fires larger than 10 feet x 10 feet call 321-5111, ext. 7343.Anyone planning to burn is asked to notify Fire District 3 headquarters in advance, 321-4400.
