"Blue Lightning girls U-12 brought home another soccer championship trophy to South Whidbey. Competing in the Aug. 24-26 Sky River Tournament, the girls took 3 out of 4 games with scores of 4-0, 7-1, a 0-2 loss, and capping off their scheduled games with a 9-0 win to advance to the finals. Meeting up with the Chargers who had earlier defeated them, the girls played to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. In double overtime and with 3 minutes left in the game goalkeeper Alexa Morley gathered up the ball and punted to the midfield line where Karissa Thomas received the ball and rambled down the field to score the winning goal. Scoring for the Blue Lightning in the tournament were Kayley Mulcahy, Natasha Roberts, Grace Itaya, Dakota Hahn-Bradley and Karissa Thomas. The team is coached by Dena and Al Thomas. "
