County invests in clear winter roads

Island County Public Works officials are preparing for the upcoming snow season with plans to purchase four new snow plows.

Department leaders are set to present the plan to the Board of Commissioners at their regular work session. The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the commissioners’ hearing room, 1 NE Sixth Street in Coupeville.

The purchase is for blades only, not trucks, and would replace the county’s four oldest plows.

The retired gear will be included in an online surplus sale once the new plows are received.

The price tag for each plow blade is $5,935, for a total estimated cost of $25,800.

They are being purchased through a Washington State contract.
